Solar Show: Passive House Specifications (Hosted by Solar Alberta)

In this industry-oriented session, Frank Crawford and Kim Walton (Passive House Alberta) will give an introduction to the International Passive House Standard and its principles, benefits and costs. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session on high performance buildings.

Frank Crawford is a Professional Civil Engineer and a Certified Passive House Designer. He designed, built and now lives in one of the first Alberta homes built to the International Passive House Standard. Through his work as an energy efficiency consultant and as the Education Committee lead of Passive House Alberta, Frank helps others learn how to achieve the benefits of building or renovating to a High Performance Building standard while minimizing the additional upfront costs and embodied and operational carbon. He incorporates the InternationalPassive House Standard, permaculture, low price-carbon design and optimized electrification to meet the goals and needs of his clients, while progressing along a zero on-site carbon and net-zero on-site energy pathway.

As the founder of this small building design, and consulting practice, Kim Walton of Bow Crow Design has spent the last 40 years designing energy efficient homes and small buildings from the Alberta Foothills. Using her skills in energy modelling and employing excellence in building science, Kim designs and manages Passive House and Net Zero projects across Canada. Kim is certified as a Passive House Designer and Builder.
