Her journey began long before sustainable architecture gained widespread recognition. Kim's passion for environmentally conscious design led her to embark on a lifelong learning and exploration path.
Initially, Kim pursued architectural design school but soon realized that the focus at the time needed to prioritize energy-efficient design. Determined to pursue her dreams, she ventured out to carve her own path. Today, she stands as a testament to perseverance and innovation. She is recognized as an industry thought leader with an extensive portfolio of work and multiple certifications, including HOT2000, EE4 training, and Passive House Design and Energy Modelling.
In the early days, sustainable development projects were few and far between, with only one or two projects taking shape each year. However, Kim's unwavering dedication to sustainable design led her to prioritize sustainability in all her work. This commitment ultimately led to the establishment of Bow Crow Design, a leading energy-efficient design company based in Sundre, Alberta, serving clients across Western Canada and specializing in small (Part 9) building development.
Kim is an entrepreneur at heart, driven by a vision to integrate energy-efficient design principles seamlessly from the initial design phase to construction. She believes investing in higher-standard buildings upfront yields long-term savings in energy bills and maintenance costs. Additionally, meticulous upfront planning ensures smoother project execution. Ideally, Kim envisions the adoption of Integrated Project Delivery and an Integrated Design Process as standard practices across projects.
